For 7v7, flag and tackle coaches

A football play designer that puts every play on your players' phones

Draw a play on your phone, tablet or computer, save it to a playbook and assign it. It shows up under Playbooks in each player's Gridly app. I coach youth football, and I built Gridly to run my own team.

Keith Godding, youth football coach. I build Gridly.

Three plays, as your players see them

These are Gridly plays, shown the way the app shows them to your players.

  • Mesh drawn in Gridly: H and Y cross underneath, X and Z run corner routes and the running back releases to the flat.

    Mesh

    7v7 offence

The two slot receivers cross at five and six yards and rub off each other's defenders. Both outside receivers run corners, and the back checks into the flat.

  • Toss Sweep Right drawn in Gridly from the I formation: the line reach blocks right, the fullback leads around the tight end and the tailback runs outside.

    Toss Sweep Right

    11-man tackle

The line reaches right. The fullback leads around the tight end and blocks the first defender outside. The flanker blocks the corner, and the tailback takes the pitch between those two blocks.

  • Cover 3 drawn in Gridly against a two-by-two set: three deep defenders and four underneath, with red dashed arrows for each drop.

    Cover 3

    7v7 defence

Both corners and the free safety each take a deep third. Two players sit in the curl and flat zones, and two more drop to the hooks.

How a play gets to your players

  1. Draw it

Place numbered or lettered players, Os and Xs. Draw routes and blocks with arrows and lines: solid, dashed or dotted, in three thicknesses and seven colours.

  2. Save it

Name the play and save it to an offence, defence or special teams playbook.

  3. Assign it

Pick the players who need it. The playbook appears in their app, and they open each play on their phone.

  4. Print it

Print one play, or the whole playbook with one or four plays to a page.

Draw on your phone at practice or on a computer at home. Your players open the plays on their phones.

Coach more than football?

The same play designer works for soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball and hockey. Add a full side for your team's sport (11 players in soccer, 9 in baseball, 6 in volleyball and hockey, 5 in basketball) and drag each player into place.

What it costs

  • Free

Questions coaches ask

Can I draw plays on my phone?

Yes. Draw on a phone, a tablet or a computer, with a finger, an Apple Pencil or a mouse. The editor fills the screen, and Undo is one tap away.

Does it work for 7v7 and flag football?

Yes. The field starts blank, so you place as many players as your format uses: 5 for NFL FLAG, 7 for 7v7, 11 for tackle.

Can I print my plays?

Yes. Print one play or the whole playbook as a PDF, one play to a page or four to a sheet.

What do my players see?

The playbooks you assign them, under Playbooks in their app. Each play opens on its own, drawn the way you drew it.

Is the play designer free?
